Significance Of Pana Sankranti :

Preparation Of Pana: Banana, coconut, rasgulla, and other fruits are added to water or milk to prepare pana. On the day of Pana Sankranti, Pana is prepared in every house of Orissa.

2. Panji Inaguration On Pana Sankranti :

On this day, as the Odia new year starts the Odia calendar which is known as Panji, is opened. According to Panji, all the Odia festivals are celebrated.

Also, the marriages and the bratas dates are fixed according to the Panji. Sree Mandira Rituals are also celebrated according to the Panji.

3. Theki On Basil Plant :

Another Ritual occurs on this day. People hung earthen pots on the basil plants, with full of water. There is also a scientific reason behind this. As summer arrived, the people tried to save the plants from the sun's hot rays. So they do so. This also called as Theki Basundhara.

4. Jhamu Jatra :

On this day the Jhamu Jatra occurs. Devotees walked on the burning coals. This Yatra mainly occurs on Goddess Temples. People also visited the Goddess temple to take blessings from goddesses on this auspicious day.

On Srimandira : Special Puja performed on Srimandira on Maha Vishuba Pana Sankranti.

On Goddesses Temple: People visited to Goddess temples (Shakti Pithas) like Chandi Temple in Cuttack, Tara Tarini Temples in Berhumpur, Maa Mangala Temple in Kakatpur, etc.

Meru Jatra: Meru Yatra is observed on this day. People pierced sharp objects on their bodies and worshiped the Goddess to get her blessings.

Danda Nach: A Traditional cultural program performed on this day called Danda Nach in different parts of Odisha. The performance and the cultural programs vary according to the region.
